San Diego, CA — Old Town Academy (OTA) is proud to announce that it has been officially recognized as a California Purple Star School, a distinction awarded to schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families.
The Purple Star designation recognizes schools that go above and beyond to provide resources, understanding, and a welcoming environment for military families, who often face unique challenges related to deployment, relocation, and transition. Old Town Academy is honored to receive this recognition and to continue serving military-connected students with care, compassion, and intentional support.
To celebrate this achievement, OTA hosted a Purple Star Ceremony on March 20, bringing together students, staff, families, veterans, and community leaders. The event was made even more special by the presence of San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, who attended the ceremony and delivered remarks in recognition of the school’s accomplishment and its support for military families.
“This recognition is a meaningful reflection of our commitment to serving the whole child and supporting the families who make up our school community,” said Devon Phillips, Executive Director and Principal of Old Town Academy. “We are incredibly proud to be recognized as a Purple Star School and grateful to all those who helped make this possible.”
Old Town Academy extends its sincere thanks to the staff, families, and community members whose dedication helped the school earn this distinction. OTA remains committed to being a place where military-connected students and families feel seen, supported, and celebrated.
