Week of 2/28 - 3/3

TK/Kinder , 1st & 2nd

We are continuing to build our classroom environment and align with class expectations.  We are learning to be flexible in how we define our “classroom,” given that we use outdoor and indoor spaces depending on activities, learning goals, and of course, the weather.  Learning goals that we are currently pursuing include participating in sustained periods of continuous physical activity for increasing amounts of time, helping friends and classmates, playing fair and teamwork.

A handy definition for teamwork at this stage can be broken down into three parts:  1)  Make a plan with your team, 2) Make sure everyone on the team has a job, and 3) Encourage your teammates.

Additionally, our second and first grade classes have done some work on basic dribbling skills with a basketball.

3rd, 4th & 5th

We continue to emphasize teamwork with these groups, as well as building their fitness through increasing periods of sustained physical activity.  These classes are also working toward demonstrating basic techniques for dribbling, shooting and passing a basketball within and beyond a game setting.

Middle School

Students are expected to show progress in exceeding their baseline measurements for time and distance, as demonstrated on their initial walk/jog/run day.  Over the course of the quarter, they should have at least, but not limited to, three separate measurements by which to compare mile times or distance-traveled over a ten minute period.

Also, we are continuing with our basketball unit, moving into organized half-court games for some students that are ready to demonstrate skills in a competitive setting.  Other students are able to use some of our lead-up games, such as Knockout and Around the World, to work on shooting skills, or a variety of other games to demonstrate their dribbling and passing skills in a less competitive arena.
